The noble tree
The key with tree is to fall out with grace. This can be difficult to do, but I recommend that when falling to use your arms to rebalance and bring the knee up to the centre or straighten the leg out to the side.
If the variation pictured is outside your range of balance, you can begin by standing on the ball of one foot, with your toes turned out to the side and your heel resting on opposite ankle. Hands can be on hips, in prayer or raised over the head.
Why do I love tree?
It strengthens legs and when mastered can become a really strong meditative posture. You can really focus on the breath here, on standing tall and on rooting down.
